Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had personal cleaning crews 24/7 to take care of the big and little messes that are sure to occur? Sadly, that’s not realistic in most instances, but there are small ways to partner with your Office Pride Commercial Cleaning Services professionals to maintain a fresh environment between scheduled cleanings.
In your workspace — whether it’s a medical clinic, school or office building — ensuring cleanliness is a sign of professionalism. Customers, clients and employees will appreciate your high standards and attention to detail. Office Pride cleaners will maintain those standards on the schedule for which you are contracted. In between those regular cleanings, you and your team can implement some simple shortcuts to keep things looking good.
Declutter
The adage “a place for everything, and everything in its place” also holds true in the workplace. Your team should designate a spot for everything, then ensure it stays there. This applies to common areas as well as individual desks or workspaces. Encourage employees to file paperwork or organize it in a desk tray and keep writing utensils in a drawer or pen holder. Staplers, paper clips and other office items are best left in desk drawers.
Empty trash
First, designate trash cans for food waste, preferably in a break room or kitchen area. Those trash cans need can liners and lids to better manage unpleasant smells. If you don’t have daily janitorial service to empty them, someone needs to take responsibility for garbage removal before odors become a problem.
Other trash cans, at desks or in bathrooms, should be emptied when full. Again, using trash can liners makes this easier. Overflowing trash cans, especially in restrooms, are a big turn-off.
Maintain kitchen areas
Speaking of kitchens and break rooms, these areas tend to get messy quickly. A rule that all employees clean up after themselves is a good starting point. Coffee mugs and lunch dishes should be washed and put away immediately after use rather than left in sinks or on counters. One dirty dish can quickly and easily become a mountain. Employees also should take responsibility for cleaning the coffeepot and wiping down the microwave, fridge and tables after use.
Sanitize
Since the start of the pandemic, everyone pays more attention to preventing the spread of germs. Have disinfecting wipes readily available for employees to wipe down computers, phones, doorknobs and light switches.
Maintain floors
Ideally, your Office Pride Commercial Cleaning crew is taking care of most cleaning for both hard floors and carpeting. However, don’t let spills and stains sit until their next service. Pull out the wet mop to clean spills in kitchen areas, restrooms or on other hard flooring. Spills on carpeting should be soaked up with paper towels and wet wiped as soon as possible to prevent stains. (And let your professional cleaners know so that they may treat the area.) Be sure to place interior and exterior floormats at doorways to reduce dirt and stains being tracked in on shoes.
Keep supplies handy
The key to staying on top of between-cleaning issues is to have some basic supplies easily accessible. Designate a closet or employee space to store paper towels, disinfecting wipes, mop, trash can liners and air freshener. Keep it stocked, and let employees know your company’s expectations.
