In a post-pandemic world, we are more aware of our surroundings, how we wash our hands and the cleanliness of where we choose to visit and work.
As a company in a social media-driven world, your sanitation practices, or lack thereof, can make or break your reputation when it comes to customer and employee satisfaction. Don’t let lackluster work by your commercial cleaning company tank your efforts.
For many workplaces, the “new normal” includes stepped-up cleaning and disinfecting services. It’s imperative that your commercial cleaning company provides what you need and expect to operate.
So, how does your cleaner score when it comes to getting the job done? Do you know what to check for when it comes to grading their work? Not knowing can put your customers and employees at risk of illness. No one wants that.
Below are a few questions to contemplate as you evaluate your cleaning company’s effectiveness.
What’s the advantage of using a professional cleaning company?
Professional cleaning companies specialize in the use of equipment and chemicals to sanitize workplaces and reduce the risk of dangerous viruses, microbes and germs. Companies like Office Pride Commercial Cleaning Services train their employees in the proper use of chemicals, following federal guidelines and adhering to manufacturers’ “dwell times,” which is the time that a disinfectant must sit on a surface to kill germs – a critical component of disinfecting.
Professional cleaning companies also have systems in place, like using color-coded cloths to avoid cross-contamination between restrooms and other areas of the workplace. Many cleaning companies – including all Office Pride franchise owners – have invested in technology such as electrostatic sprayers and misters, which spray disinfecting chemicals in common areas, personal spaces and hard-to-reach corners and crevices in the workplace. Electrostatic sprayers are effective in fighting the spread of germs that cause COVID-19, flu and other respiratory illnesses.
How clean is clean enough to meet your needs?
Surface cleaning removes dust and debris from hard surfaces or dirt on the floor. Such cleaning makes an area look clean but it lacks the deep cleaning that disinfecting provides.
So, which is right for your office?
If you want to give employees and customers peace of mind, it’s no longer acceptable to just wipe down a surface with a wet cloth. Surfaces in an office or other business need to be thoroughly sanitized or disinfected regularly to remove the dirt and germs you do not see.
Do you know which process your cleaner uses?
By definition, sanitization should kill 99.99% of harmful bacteria on nonporous surfaces. Disinfection goes just a bit further, killing 99.999% of harmful germs and bacteria. The main difference between the two methods is the strength of the chemicals used in the process.
Learn which process your professional cleaner uses and determine whether that is right for you. If not, consider adding regular disinfection of high-touch areas such as doorknobs, handles and light switches, phones, keyboards and computer mice, and sink areas in the restrooms and kitchen.
Also, make sure your cleaner’s employees wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all manufacturer and CDC/EPA guidelines for the cleaning products to protect themselves and others.
How often should we clean?
How frequently you clean depends on several factors, including the number of people in your workplace and whether you have customers visiting throughout the day.
Determine the amount of traffic both from employees and customers in your office. Learn where your high-touch points are, what parts of your office receive the most traffic and when are the best times to conduct cleanings. This can help you and your cleaning company determine what processes are right for your business.
