No matter where you work, cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting are entrenched in today’s lexicon more than ever in the post-COVID world.
But what those specific terms mean can help determine how you apply them to the needs of your business, employees and customers. Let Office Pride help you navigate the changing health guidelines set by various federal and state health agencies.
The terminology can get confusing, so following is a breakdown of what these terms mean to you and how various cleaning methods can be tailored to meet your business needs.
Isn’t cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting all the same?
No. Cleaning removes dirt you can see, such as debris or pollen tracked in on the carpet or floor, dust on a desk, etc. Traditional cleaning methods keep your office looking good and sanitize surfaces by reducing or removing pathogens from a surface. Disinfecting actually kills the germs that make people sick.
Office Pride cleans for health, putting the safety of our clients first. We use EPA-approved chemicals that are proven effective against viruses and bacteria that cause illness.
What does it mean to sanitize or disinfect?
It is no longer enough to make an office look clean; it must be disinfected regularly to kill the germs you do not see. Routine disinfection helps keep employees and customers healthy.
The difference between sanitizing and disinfection is a matter of degrees measured by health and safety agencies. Ultimately, disinfecting is more effective at killing bacteria and viruses on surfaces.
By definition, sanitizing should remove 99.99% of harmful bacteria on nonporous surfaces. Disinfection goes just a bit further to kill 99.999% of harmful germs and bacteria. The main difference between the two methods is the strength of the chemicals used in the process.
What kinds of disinfection service options does Office Pride offer businesses?
Office Pride offers several types of cleaning and disinfection services, which include high-touch area disinfection, outbreak cleaning and disinfecting, and electrostatic spraying. Office Pride also offers its proprietary Healthy Clean System for businesses.
What’s the difference?
Through high-touch area disinfection, Office Pride’s professional cleaners apply disinfectant to high-touch areas such as doorknobs, light switches, sinks and more by wiping down surfaces with EPA-approved chemicals that kill pathogens that cause illness. Cleaners leave the chemicals on the surface for the recommended time, called “dwell time,” to ensure optimum effectiveness.
Through Office Pride’s outbreak cleaning and disinfecting, professional cleaners can sanitize and apply disinfectant to your office to kill germs lingering on surfaces. Our cleaning teams wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all manufacturer and CDC/EPA guidelines to protect themselves and others.
We also offer electrostatic disinfection services for common areas, personal spaces and hard-to-reach corners and crevices in the workplace. Electrostatic sprayers are effective in fighting the spread of germs that cause COVID-19, flu and other respiratory illnesses.

Due to the growing need for quality health-care cleaning, Office Pride developed the Healthy Clean System to provide cutting-edge commercial cleaning and disinfection services.
